Lehigh is unique in that it is one of the few schools with a strong study abroad/international program specifically for engineering students. It is difficult to find the same international opportunities business and liberal arts students have since the best engineering prospects are right here in the United States. However, having an experience abroad on your resume is huge when applying for jobs after graduation, especially for engineers where it is rare.
I am currently submitting my application for an internship in Abu Dhabi with the DiSimone Consulting Engineers. The program offered through Lehigh runs eight weeks in early summer at the end of this spring semester. It is specifically made for structural engineers going into their senior or junior years. The majority of the program is funded by Lehigh and was made available to me because of my relatively high grades. I thought I would never be able to afford to travel abroad during college but even my passport would be covered if I get accepted. Though I’m not sure how the selection process works, I am really hoping to get this opportunity in the summer.
