Good morning! I have officially returned back to work from vacation to finish the last two weeks of my internship. If you are reading this and have not taken a vacation yet this summer, my advice is to take a mini-vacation before school starts up again! My two weeks off were completely relaxing & necessary, and I feel refreshed as I approach my senior year at Lehigh.
As I prepare to end my internship, I am completing three projects that my boss has given me. The picture I have added today is from one of these projects, where I have been asked to construct a drawing of the Sodium Hypochlorite or “Hypo” system on the plant. We use Sodium Hypochlorite to disinfect the effluent water just before it enters the Delaware River. In Professor Jellison’s class for Environmental Engineering, we learned about the wastewater treatment process, and the last step of disinfection uses Chlorine to treat; this is the same process, but PWD uses a different chemical to disinfect.
The other two projects that I’ve been assigned are basically data-collecting projects, where I can look either in the computer system or a the machinery on the plant. It’s a little stressful considering I have seven days left, but the people who work with me are very helpful and I’m sure I will complete the projects with no problem. I’m very grateful for the people I have met in this internship, because they have been so welcoming and have helped me in the last three months.
