First Day as a PWD Intern!

First Day as a PWD Intern!

My name is Samantha Burke and I am a Civil Engineering student who just finished up my junior year at Lehigh. Today I started my summer internship at the Philadelphia Water Department. I am working at a wastewater treatment plant where the water goes through three phases of cleaning before being treated with Sodium Hypochlorite (basically a strong bleach) and then is pumped out into the Delaware River. As I walked through the plant with the Plant Manager, I was very familiar with the procedure of wastewater treatment due to my Intro to Environmental Engineering Class (CEE 170). Professor Jellison taught this class and I found her lessons to be extremely useful when looking at and understanding the mechanics of the treatment plant. Tomorrow I will go again (hopefully I’ve figured out the quickest, least traffic route) and I am SO excited for what this summer will bring!!

About lusamantha14

I am currently a senior at Lehigh University pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. My blog this semester will be about my last undergraduate year at Lehigh: academics, social events & unexpected day to day occurrences. I'm really excited to share my thoughts, stories, and advice with anyone reading, since I know that all students go through very similar experiences. I can't wait to explore all of the opportunities that the field of Civil Engineering has to offer & I'm excited to live out my last year at Lehigh to the fullest! View all posts by lusamantha14
