Yesterday (May 12) we went on a road trip! We traveled to Ribčev laz which is a settlement on Lake Bohinj. Although it was cloudy and we couldn’t see Slovenia’s best known peak Triglav Mountain, the gaze of the first ascenders, Luka Korošec, Matija Kos, Štefan Rožič and Lovrenc Willomitzer assured us that it was still there.
Later, we walked through a gorge along the fast paced river Vintgar.
On the way, we saw remnants of two old mill races, as well as many things that we have learned about in our hydraulics classes, such as stream gauging stations and hydraulic jumps.
We also visited the beautiful Lake Bled, where we ventured via boat to Bled Island, the only permanent island in all of Slovenia. The church atop the acropolis is more than 1000 years old and still contains parts of the original structure.
