Just about a week ago, we were preparing for the competition that weekend up at ATLSS and a few changes needed to be made to the bridge. The bridge would be tested if it could withstand a vertical weight of nearly 1600 lbs, but it would also be tested laterally for a deflection of less than 1/2 inch. We needed to brace the bridge with lateral supports for it to be able to support the 50 lb lateral load. So we began by adding a few pieces laterally and securing them by clamps, this would allow us to test the bridge and make any adjustments as we saw fit without needing to weld things in place. Once we had the optimal layout, we finalized the pieces and finish welded them in.
And thus… we had a finished bridge!!
